Fortnite update 16.10 went live earlier this morning, and its biggest Battle Royale feature includes the addition of raptors around certain areas of the map. These tiny dinosaurs can be hard to find, but we’ll do our best to offer some tips to get you there. This guide details three possible locations you can use to find raptors, and outlines the basic process for taming them.
Where to find raptors or dinosaurs in Fortnite
Compared to other Season 6 wildlife like boars or wolves, there’s no denying that Raptors are much harder to locate. That being said, if you paid attention to the Battle Royale map at the start of the season, you might have a good idea of where to start your search. These dinos hatched from eggs nestled around the Spire, so meeting up with a raptor might involve heading there first. If they’re not around the main Spire structure, consult the maps below.
These beasts can be deadly if you don’t have a Hunter’s Cloak crafted and equipped, so stay sharp and make sure you’ve got a decent weapon and ammo in your inventory in case the encounter goes south.
Possible raptor spawn 1: The first raptor spawn worth trying is here, on this ledge southeast of the Spire. The dinos typically won’t be right next to their hatched eggs, but you might start to hear some lizard-like cackling as you land here.
Possible raptor spawn 2: Another raptor spawn we’ve had success with is in this area, south of Boney Burbs. Once again, listen for the cackling around this area and you may find one.
Possible raptor spawn 3: If you haven’t had success in the previous two spots, try this one on a hill west of Lazy Lake.
Unfortunately, there’s no one spawn location that spawns raptors every single match, so you may have to cycle through quite a few lobbies before finding one that works for you. That being said, these locations should be enough to get you started. In a general sense, as long as you hover around the Spire, a dinosaur should come your way.
How to tame a raptor in Fortnite
When it comes to taming raptors in Fortnite, the process mirrors what you may have already done when taming a wolf. There are two methods you can use to get the job done. Especially considering how aggressive these dinosaurs can be, our chosen tactic is to don a Hunter’s Cloak and approach them.
Collect two animal bones and one piece of meat to craft one. You can get these by killing another raptor, wolf, chicken or boar around the map. There’s also a rare possibility these materials might drop as floor loot, too. Once you have what you need, press up on the d-pad or “I” on keyboard. Scroll over to your crafting tab to make it.
If you don’t want to craft a Hunter’s Cloak, or you lost the one you may have previously had, it’s also possible to tame a raptor by throwing meat at it. You’ll have a split second to interact with the creature while it eats, and at that time you can run over and tame it. This method is fairly difficult, but it doesn’t require crafting.
Like wolves, a tamed raptor will attack anything that attacks you. You can’t ride it, but they’re still a strong companion nonetheless.
Fortnite is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, PC and Android.
