For more on Season 6, check out the 6.0 Patch Notes and our tips page for the Week 1 Challenges. While the changes to the map aren’t as large as the updates in Season 5, they are still just as impactful. Here is a full image of the new and updated map as of the 6.0 patch:
And now for a closer look at each of the changes:
Loot Lake Island
The giant purple cube fell into Loot Lake and transformed the lake into a giant bouncy solid just before the start of Season 6. As fun as it was, the purple lake wasn’t meant to be. The cinematic for Season 6 shows the the cube has reconstructed itself underneath the Loot Lake house. The cube pushed the house and surrounding area out of the ground and into the sky.
The small crater left in the water is now a giant whirlpool. You can’t get sucked in, but you can use the gusts of wind to either propel yourself up to the island in the sky or use it to glide in any direction you like. Take note that new chests appear on the island!
Seven Corrupted Zones
Those mysterious runes from last season were not just for show. Gone is the low gravity force field and in its place is a desolate wasteland. It’s not all doom and gloom, however, as the new Shadow Stones are scattered all about these zones. Grab one to enter a “shadow form” where you’ll gain movement speed and temporarily pass through objects. Standing still will make you invisible.
Plus, around each run are three new chests. Hooray!
The Haunted Castle
Haunted Hills got a nice upgrade by having a massive castle placed on top of the hill that overlooks the spooky graveyard. The castle features several towers and plenty of new chests and ammo crate spawns.
A Small Metal Shack
If run north of Lazy Links towards the edge of the map, keep an eye out for a small metal shack. Edit any of the walls to look inside and discover a few chests!
Beware the Corn Fields
Some time has passed and the corn at Fatal fields has multiplied! What does this add to the gameplay? Running through the forest of corn essentially takes away one of your senses. You won’t be able to see more than two feet in front of you so you’ll likely be jumping to get a look over all the corn. Should make for some interesting fights! Or maybe it’s a great place to run for cover.
Goodbye, Stone Statues
The stone statues that graced the map last year seem to have vanished. In their place a patch of dirt can be found, but more importantly, many of the rifts have also been left behind!
Wailing Woods Cabins
Wailing Woods not only got its own corrupted zone but it also gained three new cabins. These cabins were uniquely made for this area as they are by far the biggest cabins in the game.
Each of the three cabins hold a secret in their basements. Try to break through any bookshelfs you see, some of them are hiding doorways to secret rooms. Each cabin has an unfinished tunnel in their basement. Maybe they will expand as the season goes on?
Another Secret Bunker
Season 6 is really pushing Wailing Woods to be something greater. The small shack at the center of the hedge maze received a huge upgrade. On the outside it looks fairly the same until you realize there is a hole leading underground beneath the shack. Breaking through the floor and then another wall will lead you into a secret bunker where a rift is apparently being experimented on.
The four trees that sit on the edges of the hedge maze all received cameras. Looks like we stumbled onto something important.
Rebuilding After the Cube
Throughout the back end of Season 5, the giant purple cube romped around the map and occasionally destroyed an object or two as it moved on its side. One uneventful and small shack north of Fatal Fields got almost entirely flattened by the cube. It’s nice to see even something as minuscule as the shack is getting rebuilt.
Tilted Towers and the Poor Building
First it was the meteor at the start of Season 4. The building in the center of Tilted Towers was destroyed and the hard workers of the Fortnite world spent over a season and a half to repair it into something better. Enter the giant purple cube. While the cube made sure not to touch any important part of Tilted Towers, it did not hesitate to flatten most of the newly built building. It’s nice to see the workers are already back at it with first step of the rebuilding process!
Halloween Store Open for Business
Head over to Retail Row and look check out the new Halloween store on the eastern most building. What used to an empty building space is now a small but cool shop for decorations and the like. Don’t let the witch spook you on the way in!
